Second, I had a productive writing retreat at The Highlights Foundation this past weekend, writing final scenes on the new teen fantasy I hope to finish soon. The book is about a culture that is ruled by inherited memory on a floating island and I am having so much fun with it!

Ahh … Earl Grey tea. Braveheart soundtrack. Pattering of rain with sun showers. Hummingbird in my window. Hawk above. Perfect.

HIghlights6 Highlit11

Walks in the woods and through the countryside filled my head with scenes of love, loss, and triumph. I floated back to my cabin, propelled by words in the air.

I love how this tree marking looks like a seagull forever soaring into the unknown … kind of like storytelling. Over and over. It’s where the magic imprints itself on the page buy xanax with discovery. But first, to discover we must venture into the unknown …

Higholights9

There’s something about a cabin all to yourself in the words to let the words flow. Nothing but you and your characters.

But there’s also something to meeting up with old friends – and making new! Here’s my friend Jess Rinker with me, a talented writer to watch out for. Great things are coming from her!

Heading back to the beach soon!

It’s officially summer and it’s been a busy past month with events!

But I have to start with the full paperback cover reveal and very first review of Joshua and the Arrow Realm, releasing August 30th! Here are some fave snippets:

“Galanti has created another fast-paced, intricate tale that weaves together newly created myths with ancient ones and populates the world of Nostos with Greek gods and characters and monsters to thrill and chill the reader. This is wonderful adventure-fantasy from start to finish. I enjoyed this second book almost more than the first one. It had some fantastic characters.” Full review.

Are you a book blogger or avid reader who likes fantasy adventure and is interested in reading and reviewing Joshua and the Arrow Realm? Email me and I will send you an e-book advanced reader copy!

It’s also available for pre-order now and I’ll mail you a book mark if you do! Just email me the receipt and your address. 🙂

Seriously, how cool is this lightning orb?

In between all this fun stuff, buy xanax final book edits, and schools visits this spring I was a guest author at several conferences. It’s always fun to travel with friends and meet up with writers and readers. And that’s just what I did!

At the Pennsylvania School Librarians Conference in Hershey, PA, May 13, I met a ton of enthusiastic librarians and booked some school visits – and of course sold books! Check out this talented group of authors I was lucky to hang with in Author’s Alley, Dianne K. Salerni, Janice Gable Bashman, Jodi Moore, Kerry Gans, and Lee Harper.

At the Pennwriters  Annual Conference in Lancaster, PA, May 20-22, I presented sessions on How to Get Your Manuscript Past the Gatekeeper and 5 Things to do Before You Get a Book Deal. I was super inspired by the keynotes of friends and authors, Jonathan Maberry and Kathryn Craft! “It’s all about community and never giving up!”

Next up I cruised to Princeton, NJ, June 4-6, to attend the NJ Society of Children’s Book Writers & Illustrators (SCBWI) Annual Conference and present sessions on The Foundations of World Building. I got to spend the weekend with some wonderful, talented writers like Erica George, Tracey Baptiste, Laurie Wallmark, and Jon Gibbs.

SCBWI NJ had two great keynotes. Opening Keynote David Weisner, author and illustrator, revealed how we can tell story through pictures alone. Closing Keynote by author Suzy Ismail was so inspirational. Her talk on writing and diversity made me laugh and cry! Check it out:

Happy summer everyone!

Happy New Year + CYBILS Award Nominations!

By Donna Galanti

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

I love the holidays but also love when they are over. Autumn has passed and the world is dead and gray, but life brims beneath. The New Year brings the promise of limitless possibilities and dreams to follow! It’s an awakening as we move toward spring when our winter’s work delivers gifts from our labor (we hope!).

I’m super excited that Joshua and the Lightning Road has been nominated for a 2015 Children’s & Young Adult Bloggers’ Literary Award (CYBILS) in Elementary/Middle-Grade Speculative Fiction. Check out all of the amazing titles nominated this year and written by wonderful authors.

12373263_1008385865894050_3020906316483689043_n

I’m working this New Year on final line edits for Joshua and the Arrow Realm out May 31, 2016 – and I love the first comment my editor made about the opening!

20151230_153249

Editing is not the only thing I’m working on. I’m over the moon about my new teen medieval fantasy. Here’s a snippet of what this new book is about!

The Enemy’s Prince: Blood Fable Series

Three kings.
Two sons.
One daughter.
And a secret that could break – or bond – a kingdom.

Blood rules all.

Three enemy kings rule the floating island of Lorn Rock but one seeks ultimate power. In a world where blood delivers truth, you must lie to survive. Inherited story has created a culture stuck in the past and is breaking apart as its people turn away from their determined roles and de-evolve into the wild Primals. But one prince dreams of being a soldier in a world where people are born into their destined fable. Banished from his kingdom, he forges allies with the enemy to solve the mystery of his banishment, and his past. He must convince Lorn Rock to embrace change to survive – but can he be both soldier and ruler to save his people from a conquering king and the beasts buy xanax that lure them?

Where do I get much of my inspiration? Much of it comes from biking the trails along creeks and meadows where I live in Southeastern Pennsylvania. Even in this mild winter, the gray calls to me. Flying solo on my bike during lovely, murky days warms my heart – and my imagination. Find me a tree house high in the mist to write in. I stop often, moved by the setting, and record scenes and dialogue that come to me.

FallBikeRide   FallBikeRide2

I also get inspiration from travels, like a recent trip to Princeton, New Jersey. Stepping on the campus of Princeton University transports me to another time long ago. The architecture fuels the medieval landscape of my new book. And you can see why!

20151226171849 20151226_175230_resized 20151226_175159_resized 20151226_174841_resized 20151226_174936_resized

Bryn Athyn Cathedral is another setting where I lose myself in imagined olden days. Read my post about a recent visit there.

My next book to write this year is one close to my heart – a contemporary tale set at a campground in New Hampshire (where I lived as a child). Read about my trip back in time there this past fall.

Starting in January I have several author visits this winter and spring scheduled at local schools. Can’t wait to meet their students and share my love for reading and writing! Would you like me to visit your school? Check out my school visits page. I do FREE Skype visits as well to any location in the world.

And if you haven’t read Joshua and the Lightning Road yet, visit here to read the first two chapters!

And speaking of Joshua’s, I’d thought I’d leave you on a joyous note. Here is the real Joshua long ago at four-years-old, singing away at Christmas. May it bring you cheer this New Year, as it does me!

What awesome book are you reading right now? I am having fun with the funny Dead End in Norvelt by Jack Gantos, winner of the 2012 Newbery Medal and the Scott O’Dell Award for Historical Fiction.

Melding the entirely true and the wildly fictional, Dead End in Norvelt is a wild, off-kilter novel about an incredible two months for a kid named Jack Gantos.
