**UPDATED May 2021** Check out more new books in Unicorn Island!
I had mentioned last month that I had a surprise coming that involved unicorns—and here it is! I’m so excited to share that my new middle grade series with Epic for Kids just released!
Unicorn Island: The Secret of Lost Luck, Book 1, is out digitally right now. It releases in a 5-part serial one book per week for the next 5 weeks. Watch for it in hardcover release in the spring of 2021. It’s perfect for kids ages 8-12. Sign up and get access on Epic for one month for free.
About Unicorn Island series …
Off the South Carolina coast, a young girl discovers a mysterious island full of mythical beasts and darker dangers.
We all need a bit more magic in the world right now, don’t we? 😊 You don’t get more magical then unicorns!
When Epic hired me to write this middle grade series in 2019, all I knew was that it was to be about a girl who cared for a unicorn. Over many months, it was super exciting to bash around ideas with the Epic team until we had a full concept for the story.
Then the week before my 50th birthday and celebration trip, I hunkered down and wrote the entire book in just five days. I fell in love with these characters and its world—and I hope you do, too.
I had so much fun writing Unicorn Island because … unicorns! The illustrator, Bethany Stancliffe, did such an amazing job with the artwork throughout, too.

Happy reading!

My daughter stumbled across your series today on epic while searching for unicorn books. She is in Kindergarten, so we did them as a read aloud bedtime story. They were so engaging and enjoyable that we read books 1-3 tonight, and are eagerly awaiting the release of the next 2 books. Thank you!!
Hi Kayden, thanks for the nice note! It’s so fun that your daughter loves unicorns and found Unicorn Island. I hope you both enjoy reading the final 2 books. I am working on more stories in the series now that will be out next spring. 🙂 Happy reading!
Hi Ms. Galanti,
I just began reading Unicorn Island with my students. I probably won’t be able to finish it with them before the end of the school year, but I’m hoping that they are committed enough to the story by then that they will finish independently. : ) From what I read above, I see that each of the five installments will be released on Epic weekly, but I can’t tell when the first was released. So that I can plan and communicate with the students, can you please share with me the upcoming release dates for the remainder of the story. Right now we have access to the first two parts. We’ve just begun, but we’re already intrigued by Sam and her adventurous life! Thank you!
Hi Angela, thank you for your lovely note! I’m so thrilled they love Unicorn Island! I can absolutely tell you when the dates are for the 5-part serial. The first released on Saturday, May 9th, and seems to be releasing one a week on Saturdays. Books 1 and 2 are already out, so I think they will release like this:
Sat. May 9
Sat. May 16
Sat. May 23
Sat. May 30
Sat. June 6
I’m not sure of your school’s schedule, but I hope that is enough time for them to finish! Also, let them know that more Unicorn Island tales are on the way for next year. I am working on them now! 🙂
If your students have questions or comments, I’d love to know! You can definitely share them with me. Feel free to post here or email me at donna(at)donnagalanti.com.
Happy reading!
Donna
Congratulations, Donna and best of luck with the release of Unicorn Island. I’m tweeting this and putting it on Facebook in the hope that my step-grandkids are tempted. I don’t usually write MG but one of my shorts came out in a MG anthology last week, so I can spread the word about both now.
Roland, thanks so much for the encouragement and sharing. That’s also exciting that you’ve been dabbling in MG and congrats on the anthology!
